Dystopika Review - Chill City Builder

Dystopika
I randomly stumbled upon this game on Steam. It seemed to have a cool Blade Runner vibe, so I gave it a chance. Once I booted it up, it did not disappoint on the Blade Runner vibe or cyberpunk vibe in general.

This is not for you if you are looking for a game with goals or guidance. It drops you right in, and you can start building your cyberpunk city. I'm not going to lie; I at first started to try to recreate the city from Blade Runner because you have the option to create a giant tech pyramid, and I had to try. I would slowly get distracted and start to do my own thing.

You can start to build your city; just select some buildings and start to drag, and you'll have a whole neighborhood built. It helps you quickly and easily build a large city without individually placing each building. If you want, you can select a building and place one at a time. Personally, I really liked being able to create multiple buildings at once that all flowed together. When you drag buildings, it will generate a variety of buildings and, in some cases, connect them or generate a little neighborhood with them. You can also drop in more unique structures like the giant pyramid I mentioned earlier or the giant satellite dish. These additional structures help to add to the diversity of the structures you can build. That is probably the only thing I wish there were some more structures. The developer keeps adding updates, so I'm sure more will be added over time.

To make the buildings different, you can customize the signage and lighting that you put on the buildings. One of the cool things is you can upload your own pictures and even short videos to play on signage you can place around your city. This feature lets you truly customize your city.

There are settings to change the weather and time of day. You can use this setting to help you create some great photos. Yes, of course, there is a photo mode for a game like this. I feel like that's half the fun taking a cool picture and then posting it. If you join the Dstopika Discord, you can see some wild things other people create.

The developer, which is one person, continues to add new content and updates along with an active Discord. It seems like they will continue adding content over time and continually improve the game.

If you are into city-building games, you should absolutely pick this game up, and you can't go wrong with a price of $6.99. It's also a great game if you just want to relax and play something where everything isn't trying to kill you.
